Life transformation of Malini by Manuvikasa ngo

Malini is a 38-year-old woman farmer living in Kumbrikodlu village of Siddapur Taluq with small less than one-acre piece of land. Her husband Satish works in a rice mill blows up his earnings on alcohol. The responsibility of her two children and their farm falls on Malini’s shoulders. Her land was barren and she could at best grow a few vegetables during the rainy season. She worked as a labourer on another person’s farm to meet her family’s requirements.
Manuvikasa, a GiveIndia NGO Partner, started a self-help group, Annapurneswar SHG, in this village which Malini joined as a member. She came to know that Manuvikasa develops ponds or small tanks for the farmers. She put in a request and Manuvikasa constructed a 30*30*10 foot on her land. She was able to catch water from a spring which ensured water supply throughout the year. In fact this tank is also helpful to surrounding farmers.
After the tank was built she took an Rs. 80,000 loan from the SHG and cultivated banana and areca nut plants. The banana plantation started yielding in one year itself and gave her an additional income of Rs.40000.
She is raising an areca nut nursery and selling these to surrounding farmers and earning around Rs. 20,000 per year. She stopped working as a labourer and focuses on her farm alone.
She has become a representative of the SHG and a member of the Gram Panchayat. She is providing good education and health care to both the kids. She is regular in her repayment installments and is able to save Rs. 500 per month. Now she has purchased an LIC policy. She is planning to construct a new house and establish a small tailoring unit.
GiveIndia has dedicated the entire month of June towards Environment. Click on this link if you wish to donate towards Manuvikasa -http://bit.ly/1sRm5Dp
